OPERAS welcomes Érudit as a core member

English version

We are glad to welcome Érudit as a core member of the OPERAS community in 2026.

With Érudit joining OPERAS as a Core Member, Canada becomes a new OPERAS country — and the first non-European country to join the OPERAS Executive Assembly (EA). This is a landmark moment, opening the door to deeper collaboration with Canadian institutions and researchers and bringing Érudit’s experience running a bilingual, open-access publishing platform for the humanities and social sciences into the OPERAS community.

As a signatory to the membership, Érudit has attained Core Member status within OPERAS, taking its seat on the OPERAS EA. Érudit joins its partner, the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), which has long been an Ordinary Member of OPERAS. Together, Érudit and PKP operate as Coalition Publica — the partnership through which Canadian expertise in scholarly publishing and dissemination now has a stronger, more direct channel into OPERAS.

Érudit’s accession also reflects a wider ambition OPERAS has been building towards: extending its reach and relevance beyond the ERA. As OPERAS moves towards becoming a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC), it has set out to grow its international standing — forming partnerships with infrastructures and institutions outside Europe, and positioning itself as a trusted partner in the global open science landscape.

“We’re excited that OPERAS expands and solidifies its core membership beyond Europe with a vital partner so important for the open science community worldwide”, says Maciej Maryl, OPERAS co-coordinator. “The Canadian team was strongly represented at this year’s OPERAS conference, so we had a unique opportunity to discuss and identify common points of interest and already have some plans for the future!”

Bringing a Canadian voice into OPERAS governance

Through its seat on the EA, Érudit will deepen Coalition Publica’s engagement with OPERAS and will now have a direct role in shaping its strategic direction  — strengthening ties to the international SSH research infrastructure community. Through the OPERAS Special Interest Groups and closer integration with programmes and initiatives such as the EDCH, Érudit, Coalition Publica, and PKP will help ensure Canadian needs are reflected in OPERAS’s broader European work.

We are looking forward to further collaborations.
