OPERAS welcomes the University of Silesia in Katowice

We are glad to welcome the University of Silesia in Katowice as a new ordinary member of the OPERAS community in 2024.
The University of Silesia in Katowice is the largest in Silesia and one of the largest in Poland – it educates more than 18,000 students in 8 faculties.
The university is engaged in open science – it has introduced an Institutional Openness Policy and an innovative research data management programme called “Data Steward.” Also associated with open science at the University are the Center for Scientific Information and Academic Library (CINiBA) and the University of Silesia Press, which publishes 44 academic journals and numerous monographs through dedicated open access platforms (journals.us.edu.pl and monograph.us.edu.pl).
The Faculty of Humanities is the university’s largest academic unit with seven research institutes, 600 researchers and significant international cooperation. The faculty is one of the most active in project submissions and the number of grants obtained and projects carried out.
“We are very excited to join OPERAS, as we have been observing the organisation’s efforts to promote openness in scientific communication for a long time. We look forward to developing cooperation in various areas, including publishing scientific books in open access, as well as pointing SSH researchers to the best platforms and tools in their research activities and dissemination of scientific output”. – Anna Matysek, Digital Humanities research team
The University of Silesia in Katowice will contribute to the Tools and Platforms Special Interest Group.
We are looking forward to further collaborations.
