OPERAS: A new home for cOAlition S
We are deeply honoured to announce that OPERAS was appointed as new Host Secretariat of cOAlition S. OPERAS shares cOAlition S’ commitment to full and immediate Open Access and has a long-standing role in strengthening open scholarly communication in Europe through community building, policy coordination, and shared infrastructure.
OPERAS brings a strong commitment to the values that underpin the mission of cOAlition S and extensive experience in managing member organisations. We are confident that this partnership will strengthen our capacity to deliver the 2026–2030 strategic priorities. We also want to express our utmost appreciation to the European Science Foundation, which has hosted the Office and supported cOAlition S since 2020.
said Lidia Borrell-Damián, Chair of the cOAlition S Executive Steering Group.
Nicolas Walter, Chief Executive Officer of the European Science Foundation (ESF), said:
Hosting the cOAlition S Office at ESF and supporting Plan S as it grew from a bold ambition into a standard for Open Access has been both a privilege and a reward. We wish OPERAS and the whole coalition every success in this next chapter.
OPERAS will establish the Secretariat of cOAlition S as a dedicated operational programme within its organisation, providing a stable legal and operational framework and professional support.
As noted by Maciej Maryl, OPERAS co-coordinator and programme manager,
Hosting the Secretariat of cOAlition S aligns naturally with OPERAS’ mission of supporting diverse communities, infrastructures and projects working towards the shared goal of making Open Science reality.
Yannick Legré, Secretary General of OPERAS, added:
We are honoured to take on this role at such a significant moment. Open Access to research results is the foundation of a more equitable knowledge system, and it is at the heart of everything OPERAS does. We look forward to the work ahead.
